My name is Orly Sela, and I am a member of the organization "Memory Ambassadors in the First Person." As descendants of the second and third generations of Holocaust survivors, we share the testimonies of our loved ones in the first person, driven by the profound understanding that we must never forget.
In April 2025, I was honoured to be the keynote speaker at the official Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony hosted by the President of Taiwan, the honoured Lai Ching- te.
There, I shared the story of my grandmother, Yehudit Biks (Klein). As a young woman, Yehudit was sent to Auschwitz, where she tragically lost both of her parents. Against all odds, she and her brother, Janos, survived the horrors.
I was deeply moved by the magnitude of the event, which was meticulously organized, and I felt a profound personal connection as I managed to touch the hearts of the distinguished guests in attendance. In the days following the ceremony, I continued to share my grandmother’s story at various institutions across Taiwan—a journey that was both emotionally jarring and incredibly significant.
Below, you will find a link to a video telling my grandmother’s story and my own. I hope it moves you as deeply as it did our friends in Taiwan. May we never forget what happened to the Jewish people and my family eighty-two years ago during those dark times-we pray will never be repeated for any nation, ever again.
All the best
Orly Sela.
